We have some good news in these most trying times. The 48th Pig Dinner will live on at a respectable distance! That's right, we will be hosting the 48th Pig Dinner virtually on Zoom. The party will be live at 7PM EDT on Saturday, April 25th. A rough draft of the agenda is below, but please note this is subject to change:

So make sure to put on your boxers, a pressed shirt and your blazer, and we will see all of your shining faces via the world wide web soon.

If you have any questions, please reach out to Dana (vtfijidana@yahoo.com) who will be our Zoom meeting organizer.

48th Pig Dinner has been suspended indefinitely over COVID-19 concerns. Please see the Virginia Tech press release at the link here. We have pasted the pertinent section below.

University events at all Virginia Tech locations

We are canceling all Virginia Tech-sponsored events at any location that are scheduled prior to April 30 and that are expected to draw crowds larger than 100 people.

We will regularly evaluate events beyond April 30 and announce such decisions as they are made. At this point, we anticipate that commencement events in May will proceed as scheduled. However, should a change be needed, we will convey that decision with as much advance notice as possible.

Events that are affected by this decision include (but are not limited to):

  • Principles of Community Week events

  • Ring Dance

  • Faculty Women of Color in the Academy National Conference

  • The Big Event

  • Relay For Life

  • The 3.2-Mile Run in Remembrance

  • Caldwell March

  • Spring Family Weekend

  • Black Alumni Reunion

  • Regional campaign events

  • Ut Prosim Society Weekend

  • Hokie Focus

  • Spring Open House

Beyond these, cancellations apply to any Virginia Tech event expecting a turnout of more than 100 people at any location through April 30.

We are revamping the traditional Rho Alpha Pig Dinner program this year. In past years, attempts to foster meaningful interactions between the many generations of Rho Alpha brothers have had limited success. Towards this end, we are implementing a Brothers-only luncheon, starting at 12:00pm sharp on Saturday. This is a mandatory event for the undergraduates, and all graduates are strongly encouraged to make their travel plans accordingly so that they can attend, as this will not be a separately payable/reserved event. No alcohol will be permitted at the lunch! A lot of the regular ceremonial and speech “stuff” will be moved from the dinner hour to the luncheon, so that all of the good information and traditions can be absorbed by the entire brotherhood without the distractions of alcohol and beautiful women. We will end up with a much more streamlined dinner program later that night, and more time for dancing than we’ve been able to achieve in past years. This is somewhat of an experiment, so please have an open mind with this new Saturday agenda. For those of you looking forward to visiting TOTS like usual, it will still be available to us after the luncheon concludes, and hopefully the weather will cooperate!

Rooms:

The blocks are split 20 rooms at the Residence Inn, and 10 rooms at Hyatt Place, adjacent properties on the corner of Prices Fork and University City, directly across from the Inn. Rate for both properties is $129+tax/night, and breakfast is included in the rate.
Note that all rooms are king bed suites with pull-out sofa, so not normally as bachelor roommate-friendly as we're used to checkout 26 April.

Residence Inn (20 rooms):

850 Prices Fork Road

It's possible to try and book a room at the Inn but we could not have a block this year due to part of the Inn being convereted to a dorm thanks to the genius of VT admissions.

Don't forget Airbnb is a great option in Blacksburg as well!
